There are some weddings where everything just comes together - the venue, the styling, the people, the atmosphere and an incredible team of suppliers. Amelia and Roddy’s wedding at Kin House in Wiltshire was definitely one of those days.
Set in the Wiltshire countryside, Kin House has so much character without ever feeling overdone. For Amelia and Roddy’s wedding, the whole place had been styled beautifully with florals and a timeless black and white theme. Every guest wore black, with the men in black tie, which looked incredible against the gardens and lighter tones of the house.
It felt elegant, modern and effortlessly cool.
The morning started with bridal preparations inside Kin House and, despite everything that was about to happen, it was incredibly relaxed.
That’s something I always love when filming a wedding. Having enough space in the morning for everything to unfold naturally means I’m able to capture those smaller moments without constantly having to manufacture them or rush people around.
There was also a fantastic team of suppliers working together throughout the day.
It was my first time working alongside photographer Joshua Woodland, and I absolutely loved it. Joshua is incredibly well established within the wedding industry and it was great watching how effortlessly he captures a wedding as it unfolds. As a filmmaker, having that relationship with the photographer makes such a difference. Neither of us needed to dominate the day or constantly direct things. We could simply let moments happen, capture them from our own perspectives and give Amelia and Roddy the space to actually experience their wedding.
Amelia and Roddy held their ceremony in the Garden House at Kin House, within the beautiful walled garden.
From a filmmaking perspective, it’s a gorgeous ceremony space.
Natural light pours into the Garden House and creates this really soft, bright feel, while still giving you the intimacy of an indoor ceremony. Combined with the surrounding gardens, it gives you so many opportunities to capture both the ceremony itself and everything happening around it.
One of my favourite moments came when Amelia walked down the aisle.
Seeing Rod’s reaction and the emotion on his face is exactly why I love filming weddings. However beautiful everything around you might be, it’s those completely unscripted reactions that ultimately tell the story.
After the ceremony everyone headed outside for confetti, ending with Amelia and Roddy giving us an incredible dip kiss at the end of the aisle.
Couldn’t really ask for a better ending to a ceremony.
The drinks reception took place on the main lawn outside Kin House.
With everyone dressed in black and black tie, champagne flowing and the house sitting behind them, the whole thing looked ridiculously good.
This part of the day is also where I tend to become much more observational with my filmmaking.
Rather than constantly pulling couples away for shots, I want them spending time with the people they’ve invited. I’m looking for conversations, hugs, laughter, reactions and all the little things happening around them.
Those moments might not feel significant at the time, but they’re often the things that make a wedding film feel like your wedding rather than simply a beautiful film of a beautiful venue.
Then came the call to dinner.
And this was brilliant.
Every guest had their own personalised tambourine waiting for them at the tables. As Amelia and Roddy made their entrance, the room absolutely erupted.
They danced their way down the middle of two long tables while everyone around them was on their feet, shaking tambourines and going completely wild.
It immediately changed the energy of the day.
The elegant, black-tie wedding we’d been filming throughout the afternoon suddenly turned into a proper party — and it was only getting started.
The evening was insane.
DJ. Sax. Bongos. A packed dance floor.
It had that Ibiza-style party atmosphere where everyone completely commits to it, which is always incredible to film.
Amelia and Roddy chose Fred again.. – Put Your Loving Arms Around Me for their first dance, which couldn’t have suited the evening better. It started another chapter of the day and from there the dance floor just went off.
It’s always one of my favourite contrasts to capture in a wedding film.
The morning can be calm and intimate. The ceremony becomes emotional. The afternoon is full of conversations and champagne. And then, a few hours later, the exact same people are losing their minds on a dance floor to sax and bongos.
That’s a wedding.
Amelia and Roddy’s wedding was my first opportunity to experience their particular vision for Kin House, and it’s easy to understand why couples choose the venue.
There are so many different environments within one location.
You have the interiors of the house for preparations, the beautiful natural light of the Garden House, the walled garden, the main lawn for drinks and photographs, and then spaces that completely transform once the evening begins.
For wedding videography, that variety is brilliant because the film naturally evolves visually as the day progresses.
But what I remember most about Amelia and Roddy’s wedding isn’t just how good everything looked.
It’s Rod’s reaction as Amelia walked towards him.
It’s hundreds of little moments happening across the lawn during the drinks reception.
It’s two rows of guests going crazy with personalised tambourines as Amelia and Roddy danced into dinner.
And it’s a packed dance floor at the end of an incredible day.
That’s ultimately what I want a wedding film to preserve.
Not simply what your wedding looked like.
What it felt like to be there.
