I’m Dan, a wedding videographer based just over the border in Dorset, filming weddings throughout Somerset and across the South West. My approach to wedding filmmaking is simple. I want your film to feel like your wedding actually felt.
I’m not there to turn your day into a film set or constantly pull you away from your guests. I work quietly in the background, capturing the little moments, conversations, nerves, laughter and emotion that happen naturally throughout the day.
The end result is a wedding film that feels personal to you — something that doesn't just show you what your wedding looked like, but takes you straight back to how it felt.
Somerset is one of my favourite areas to film weddings. Being based in North Dorset means a huge part of Somerset is right on my doorstep, and the countryside here suits the way I shoot perfectly. Beautiful old country houses, estates hidden away down country lanes, converted barns, gardens, woodland and miles of open countryside — it's exactly the kind of environment I love working in.
My films combine cinematic imagery with a much more documentary approach to the actual wedding day. Rather than directing everything that happens, I prefer to let moments unfold naturally and capture them as they happen. Your vows, speeches and conversations become part of the story too. I use the actual voices and words from your wedding day throughout my films, meaning every film I create has its own story rather than following the same template.
One of the things I love about filming weddings in Somerset is the variety of venues. You can go from beautiful historic country houses and private estates to relaxed barn weddings surrounded by fields and countryside.
I've been lucky enough to film weddings across Somerset and the wider South West, and I'm always excited to discover somewhere new. Some Somerset venues and areas you may have seen featured across my films and wedding stories include weddings around Frome, Bruton, Wells, Shepton Mallet, Yeovil and the surrounding Somerset countryside.
If I haven't filmed at your venue before, that isn't something you need to worry about either. I actually love arriving somewhere new. I'll normally spend a little time exploring the venue before everything begins, looking at the light, surroundings and different locations I can use throughout the day. By the time things get underway, I already have a pretty good idea of how I want to tell the story.
or most weddings, I begin filming during the morning preparations. This is one of my favourite parts of the day because so much happens before the ceremony even begins — the nerves, gifts, letters, conversations with parents and friends and those quiet moments when everything suddenly starts to feel real.
From there, I document the day as naturally as possible. During the ceremony I'm discreet and unobtrusive, using multiple cameras and separate audio so I can capture everything without needing to move around or distract from what's happening.
Afterwards, I want you to enjoy your wedding. I'll capture your guests, drinks, hugs, conversations and everything happening around you rather than constantly asking you to perform for the camera.
We'll normally spend a short amount of time getting some beautiful footage of the two of you, but even then I keep things relaxed. Then it's speeches, evening light, dancing and whatever else the day decides to throw at us. Some of my favourite footage has come from moments nobody planned.
Every wedding film I create is different because every wedding is different. I don't want to simply put beautiful shots over a piece of music. I want there to be a story.
That might begin with something your dad says during the morning, a few words from your vows or a line from a speech later in the evening. Those pieces of audio are woven throughout the film alongside the quieter moments that you might not even have noticed happening around you.
The result is something much more personal. Years from now, I want you to hear those voices again, see the people who were there and remember exactly what that part of your life felt like.
Choosing the person who films your wedding is a pretty personal decision. You're inviting someone into some incredibly intimate moments with your family and friends, so I think it's important that you connect with their work and feel comfortable having them around. My aim is to give you the space to enjoy your wedding while quietly documenting everything happening around you.
No huge production.
No spending hours away from your guests.
Just your wedding, your people and your story captured properly.
